Which California Schools and School Districts Have the Most Dropouts?

High schools in California had an average dropout rate of 3.5 percent for the 2005-06 school year, according to a study by the California Dropout Research Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The report found that charter and alternative schools showed a much higher dropout rate than regular, comprehensive high schools, with a combined average dropout rate of 23 percent at nontraditional public schools and an average dropout rate of 2 percent at regular public schools.

The report said that this large difference could be due to the lower enrollment numbers at charter and alternative schools.
