A report by the General Accountability Office on the Bush administration’s Faith-Based and Community Initiative recommends better monitoring of faith-based organizations that receive federal grants to deliver social services. The GAO reviewed the initiative-related centers in five federal agencies, including the Department of Education, which funds programs to mentor children under the initiative through its Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities National Programs.
