The full texts of Education Week newspaper and Teacher Magazine are now available through a national on-line computer network, the publisher of the two periodicals and G.T.E. Educational Network Services announced last week.
Using the service, subscribers can conduct “keyword searches’’ of every news story, brief, and commentary article that has appeared in Education Week over the past five years and in Teacher Magazine during the past two years.
Users have the option of reading the articles on the computer screen or downloading them to a disk or printing them out for later use.
The new service was made possible through a collaborative effort of the Washington-based Editorial Projects in Education, which publishes the two periodicals, and G.T.E. Educational Network Services.
Nearly 50,000 people interested in education policy subscribe to Education Week, which is published 40 times a year, and more than 100,000 educators subscribe to the monthly Teacher Magazine.
By June, Ronald A. Wolk, the editor and publisher of both periodicals, noted, the data base will contain every article published in Education Week’s 12-year history as well as every story published in Teacher since the magazine was launched in 1989.
Mr. Wolk also noted that subscribers will have access to the latest issues of both publications days before the printed versions arrive in the mail.
In addition to editorial content, the E.P.E./G.T.E. Network will also contain the nation’s largest education-jobs data base.
Arvind Jadhav, the president of G.T.E. Educational Network Services, noted that subscribers to the service will also obtain access to an existing system of more than 30 education-related data bases and 60 computer bulletin boards.
“The addition of Education Week and Teacher Magazine to the network makes the service even more valuable by providing educators with a cost-effective, timesaving method to retrieve and disseminate important educational information,’' he said.
For a limited time, the E.P.E./G.T.E. Network will waive the $35 annual subscription fee and the one-time, $25 charge for new subscribers.
