Jacqueline P. Danzberger, the director of governance programs for the Washington-based Institute for Educational Leadership, died April 17 of cancer. She was 67.

Jacqueline P. Danzberger

Ms. Danzberger became the chairwoman of the Darien, Conn., board of education in 1968, and helped found the IEL’s Connecticut Education Policy Fellowship Program in 1976. She also served as the executive director of Youthwork, a nonprofit group aimed at improving education and training for at-risk youths.

Ms. Danzberger spent 17 years at the IEL developing and managing programs relating to education governance, management, and evaluation. She directed the institute’s 1986 national study of local boards of education. She also developed a school-board-effectiveness program and follow-up studies on school restructuring.
