Dallas school officials have suspended and are investigating the district’s technology chief for allegedly taking free trips on a computer vendor’s sport-fishing boat.
Ruben Bohuchot, the district’s associate superintendent for technology, was put on administrative leave with pay on July 27 pending the outcome of the investigation, said Donald Claxton, a spokesman for the Dallas schools.
Mr. Bohuchot, who oversaw and helped to negotiate state- and federally funded technology contracts, allegedly took numerous personal trips on the boat of Frankie Wong, the president of Micro System Enterprises, according to district records and reports in The Dallas Morning News. The Houston-based computer company is the lead recipient in a consortium of companies that could reap up to $369 million in federal E-rate funds through district contracts.
District policy bars employees, and specifically those who work on contracts, from accepting gifts from contractors. State and federal laws also ban such exchanges.
Mr. Bohuchot told The Dallas Morning News that he did nothing wrong. He has been audited before, and his personal finances have been investigated, with no evidence of wrongdoing uncovered.
