Because of inaccurate information provided by the U.S. Department of Education, a story on the recess appointments of two department officials in the April 28, 2004, issue of Education Week (“Ed. Dept. Officials Get Recess Appointments”) incorrectly said that Edward R. “Ted” McPherson’s previous appointment as chief financial officer for the U.S. Department of Agriculture was also a recess appointment. He was confirmed for that position by the U.S. Senate in 2001.

An article on the Center for Research on Education, Diversity, & Excellence in the April 21 issue (“A Testing Ground”) incorrectly reported the number of students enrolled at Starlight Elementary School in Watsonville, Calif. The correct number is 680.
