Bill Changing Title 1 Funding Formula Likely To Be Introduced Next Week

By Diette Courrégé Casey — July 08, 2011 1 min read

A bill that would change the number-weighting provision of the Title 1 funding formula likely will be introduced early next week.

We reported a couple of weeks ago that the bill would be coming soon, and a new blog post on the Formula Fairness Campaign website says to “watch this blog for breaking news early next week.”

The Formula Fairness Campaign is the umbrella group for organizations interested in changing the Title I distribution formula. They say it results in more federal funding for low-income students in larger, more-affluent districts than it does for similar students in smaller, poorer districts.

This bill is one of the top legislative priorities of the Rural School and Community Trust, which spearheads the Formula Fairness Campaign.

A version of this news article first appeared in the Rural Education blog.
