Credentialing Program for School HR Professionals Announced

The American Association of School Personnel Administrators this month launched a national credentialing program for school human resource administrators.

The credential, according to the AASPA, will be intended “identify high competency in school district human resource oversight.” The program is said to be the first of its kind.

“School HR administrators deserve a credential program of their own to support their expertise for comprehensive position that requires a balance of skills, legal knowledge and the ability to work with people,” said Jody Shelton, executive director of AASPA. Through 2010-11, the program will be in a pilot phase and will be open only to AASPA members with at least eight years of experience as a school personnel administrator. After that, it will be open to all AASPA members.

Applicants for AASPA National Certification will be required to submit electronic portfolio comprising evidence of their performance, including original writing, documentation, and departmental plans. Candidates will be scored on well they meet defined standards across six areas: personnel administration, personnel management, personnel development, organizational development, employment and labor relations, and professional standards.
