News in Brief
Stockton Superintendent Fired
The Stockton, Calif., school board has voted to fire Superintendent Anthony A. Amato just more than a year into his tenure. The unanimous vote came last week after months of tension between the panel and Mr. Amato. His efforts to create a college-going culture in the district were the subject of a recent Education Week story. ("Attitude Adjustment," Aug. 26, 2009.)
