Top U.S. Language Official Resigns

Kathleen Leos, director of the office of English-language acquisition in the U.S. Department of Education, resigned last week, the department confirmed. She had been director since September 2005. Margarita Pinkos, assistant associate deputy secretary for the same office, was to become acting director Oct. 29.
