New Jersey Contractors Sued Over Construction Problems
The New Jersey Schools Construction Corp. has filed a lawsuit against contractors to recover more than $3.5 million over allegedly shoddy work in an elementary school construction project in Essex County.
The lawsuit, filed Dec. 27 in state superior court in Trenton, alleges that the SCC has spent more than $3.5 million to buttress flawed beams and to correct other problems.
The SCC was created in 2002 to oversee construction projects in the 31 districts designated as the state’s neediest in the Abbott v. Burke school finance case. The suit filed last month is the first by the SCC to recover costs caused by design errors. A few weeks earlier, the group filed a suit to recoup environmental cleanup costs incurred during the construction of a new school in Elizabeth.
