President Bush on Oct. 17 nominated Eugene W. Hickok, a former deputy secretary of education in the president’s administration, to be a member of the National Council on the Humanities for the remainder of a term that expires Jan. 26, 2008. Mr. Hickok, who left his No. 2 position at the Department of Education in January, is also a former Pennsylvania education chief.
