Employees of the New Orleans public schools will have free health insurance through the end of this month, according to the company that manages the district’s operations.
The New York City-based Alvarez & Marsal announced last week that the New Orleans district and the company that insures its employees were working on a plan to continue coverage beyond October.
Although employees have been paying a portion of their health-care premiums, the disruption caused by Hurricane Katrina prompted the district to pay the entire premium for employees this month. Retirees also won’t have to pay a premium for October coverage..
