Student leadership: The Center for Field Services and Studies at the University of Massachussetts in Lowell requests abstracts/proposals for papers on student leadership in schools, K-12, to be considered for publication in a new journal. Possible topics include: technology, governance, service learning, academic support, peer tutoring, curriculum, philanthropy. Also looking for review of literature, resource guide, and annotated bibliography. Proposal or outline should not exceed three pages.There is no specific deadline for proposals, but the Center asks that they be submitted as soon as possible. Dec. 1--ACM97 essay contest: Entries are due for the "ACM97 Vision of the Future" essay contest, sponsored by Popular Science magazine and the Association for Computing. Essays must be on the subject of "how computer technology will change our lives over the next 50 years" and must be no longer than 1,500 words. The contest is open to all students in grades 9-12.
