Administrative Regulations
Final Rules

The Education Department published regulations in the June 10 Federal Register eliminating a requirement that recipients of noncompetitive, continuing discretionary grants submit applications. Although the regulations are final, the department is asking for comments by Aug. 9.

Combined Application Notice

The Education Department published in the June 10 Federal Register a combined application notice for federal education programs dealing with special education and higher education, outlining due dates and the estimated size and numbers of awards.

Content Standards

The Education Department has announced plans to give priority under the Fund for Innovation in Education to projects that aim to develop model content standards for English and economics. The notice appeared in the July 14 Federal Register.

Legislative Action

Special Education

The House Subcommittee on Select Education and Civil Rights has held its final hearing this year on the upcoming reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

School Violence Hearing

The House Subcommittee on Elementary, Secondary, and Vocational Education held a hearing last month on school violence, featuring testimony from educators.
