Summar Rae Barnett, a 3rd-grade student from Vincent, Ohio, has been selected as the top U.S. winner in an international art competition for children.
Her entry, “People in the Rain,” was chosen from among some 3,100 works by American children ages 5 to 15.
The annual competition is sponsored by Pentel Company Ltd., a Japanese maker of writing instruments and art materials. The contest this year drew 45,000 entries from 75 countries.
Summar Rae is the fourth student of Sylvia and Sandra Young, twin sisters who are art teachers in the Warren school district, to win the annual award, according to the company.
Entries to the competition must be submitted through an art educator. Information on next year’s contest is available from Mark M. Welfley, Pentel of America, 2805 Columbia St., Torrance, Calif. 90503.
