In our third year of The State of Teaching, we wanted to get a bit more granular investigating questions that have interested us as we’ve continued to survey and report on the teaching profession.
Top among them: Who are our newest, youngest teachers, and what new attitudes, dispositions, and expectations does Gen Z bring to the profession? What will help these young teachers, who have entered during a period of profound disruption in teaching, stay on the job?
We’ve coupled this with an in-depth look at how the status and supports given to teachers of English learners have changed. And based on widespread frustration we’ve heard from educators about student behavior, our survey this year asked detailed questions about what teachers think would help improve classroom management.
As always, our project is built on an exclusive, nationally representative survey of America’s K-12 teacher workforce by the EdWeek Research Center and on-the-ground reporting by EdWeek journalists.
In Year 3, we’ve improved our collection of state-by-state results and made it easier for you to see the big picture. We hope the project continues to help you understand this critical workforce of 3 million educators and find solutions to make the profession sustainable.
