Twitter Chat: How Can Digital Games Boost Learning?

Last week Education Week reporter Benjamin Herold hosted a Twitter chat on the use of digital games in the classroom.

The chat featured industry experts Greg Toppo, USA Today reporter and author of The Game Believes in You: How Digital Play Can Make Our Children Smarter; Richard Culatta, director of the office of educational technology in the U.S. Department of Education; and Michael Levine, executive director of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center, a New York City-based nonprofit focused on digital-media use and children.

Educators and learning game leaders nationwide joined in to share their own experiences and strategies for effective use of digital learning games. Participants delved into pros and cons of different educational gaming approaches, explored the potential role of learning games in assessment, and discussed resources and next steps for gamifying the classroom.
