Though the political landscape in Washington is making an early-education expansion difficult, states should continue their own work as well as support the Obama administration’s proposal, said U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan at this week’s meeting of the Education Commission of the States in St. Louis.

Along with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, Duncan has been touring the country to gin up support for the administration’s $75 billion plan to boost early-childhood education by providing grants for states to expand their preschool programs.
