Does it sometimes seem to you that the common standards initiative prompts more questions than it answers? Here’s another crop: Where will they “live” after states adopt them? Who will be in charge of updating them? Who will own them in a decade or two? Who will resolve problems that might arise with them? If an entity is in charge of them, what sort of entity should it be, and how will that organization ensure that states stay in charge of the whole complicated business?
I understand that the Fordham folks are also asking several dozen people for advice on the governance question, and will put out a paper in the fall wrapping all that up and detailing some options. Stay tuned.
