Improving Higher Ed. Starts With Rigor, Accountability

By Caralee J. Adams — February 20, 2011 1 min read

Check out the Sunday Washington Post for a good overview of the ideas experts are tossing around to improve the college experience.

The Post‘s 8 Big Ideas for Improving Higher Ed. doesn’t include any big surprises, but it nicely packages the discussion that’s occurring on campuses and in statehouses around the country.

Among the ideas: Students aren’t learning enough, so give them more homework and measure what they retain after four-plus years of shelling out tuition; cut back on expensive sports programs and reinvest in academics; and get kids college-ready in high school to avoid costly remediation courses.

Not new proposals, but perhaps being featured on the cover of the Post magazine section will give the college reform advocates momentum.
