The proposed “Tennessee Promise” giving high school graduates two free years of community college tuition has cleared the state legislature and is headed to Gov. Bill Haslam’s desk for approval, per this AP story.
The House passed the measure 87-8 and the Senate 30.1. The Republican governor had introduced the idea in his State of the State address in February.
The Tennessee Promise is one of many attempts by state governments to make college more affordable and accessible in an effort to keep their workforce competitive.
