Greetings, common-standards addicts. A halfway bit of news for you today: Maine’s commissioner of education, Angela Faherty, has approved the common standards, according to department of education spokesman David Connerty-Marin.

Now before you get all excited and check for a revised map, get a hold of yourself. This isn’t a full adoption, since standards must be approved by the legislature in Maine. So our map remains as it was on Sept. 30 with adoptions by 37 states and the District of Columbia. (And remember that Minnesota adopted only the English/language arts standards, not the math.)

Maine’s next legislative session convenes in January, so stay tuned.
