The eagerly awaited K-12 common standards are getting closer to their first public viewing. Writing groups are working on a major revision to make them more accessible and easier to use, based on feedback they’ve gotten from state leaders, education groups, scholars, and others they’ve sought out.
See my story for a fuller description of the thorny process of feedback and revision. We provide links there to drafts of the math and English/language arts standards. These drafts are not the first version, nor will they be the last. They’ve been revised repeatedly, taking feedback as it comes in, and will be revised again and again—including after a future public-comment period—before it’s all over. So read them bearing in mind that they represent a snapshot in time; no more and no less.
