“Conditions of Teaching in Charter/Community Schools in Ohio,” is available from The Ohio Collaborative.
About half the teachers in Ohio charter schools left their positions after the 2003-04 academic year, far outpacing the attrition rate in the state’s traditional public schools, according to researchers from The Ohio State University.
The statistics were similar for the three years before that, concludes the study by the Ohio Collaborative, a research and policy center based at the university. Eleven percent of teachers in traditional public schools left their positions after the 2003-04 school year. At high-poverty urban schools, the figure was 19 percent.
