Add two more states to your No Child Left Behind waiver extension tally: Maryland and Idaho.

The Old Line State and the Gem State became the seventh, and eighth states to see their waivers extended, for one additional year. Both states will have to continue to work with the U.S. Department of Education on their teacher evaluation systems, per the department’s decision to let states keep their flexibility even if they are still hammering out the details on that tricky piece of NCLB waiver implementation.

Maryland has run into some difficulties in the teacher evaluation area, including in implementing its Race to the Top plan. Still, it’s the very first original Race to the Top state to get a waiver extension.

The Education Department is expected to announce more waiver extensions this summer.
