Mark your calendars: Next Wednesday, at 10 a.m., the Senate education committee is officially scheduled to begin long-awaited action on a bill to reauthorize the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. (Apparently, the original plan had been to hold the markup a day earlier.)

If you’ve been paying attention to this blog, you already know a lot about the draft bill lawmakers will consider on Oct. 19.

A press release issued today by the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee says the “comprehensive bill will reflect 10 months of bipartisan negotiations” between Chairman Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, and ranking Republican member Mike Enzi of Wyoming, “and will address many of the problems created by ESEA’s most recent reauthorization, the No Child Left Behind Act.”
