More news of the surreal in the post-Sandy Hook era: The pastor of a Pentecostal church in Beaumont, Texas, who runs a firearms-training business on the side is now proudly offering free shooting lessons to teachers and school administrators, according khou.com. The response has been strong so far:

Saturday morning, about 150 school teachers and principals and even home school volunteers flocked to the firing line for McAbee's free training. The shooting range out in the woods quickly ran out of parking spaces, forcing a church aide to stand out in the asphalt on FM 105 and tell drivers they had to join the line of pick-up trucks and cars parked alongside the road.

Some of the teachers who attended the first session offered by the “pistol-packing preacher” acknowledged they were conflicted about the carrying of guns in schools but said they felt like they had to do something to make sure their students are protected. "[I] feel like I should learn how to do this,” said an elementary school music teacher.

The educator who performed the best in target practice, for the record, was a “white-haired home school volunteer.”

“Bad guys have guns,” she is quoted as saying. “I think the good guys need to be able to protect themselves.”
