Jim Warford, Florida’s first chancellor of K-12 schools, resigned this month and officially will leave his post later this year.
Mr. Warford was picked to oversee the K-12 education system by Gov. Jeb Bush under the state’s restructured education department. The chancellor reports to the state commissioner of education.
Appointed in April 2003, Mr. Warford previously was the elected superintendent of the 40,000-student Marion County school district, based in Ocala, Fla.
Gov. Bush, a Republican, praised Mr. Warford’s work after he resigned on July 11. Mr. Warford declined last week to give specific reasons for his resignation. He will be on leave until his official departure in November.
