The Education Department

Alternative Schools

The Education Department plans to award $2 million to fund up to seven alternative high schools for low-income students, to combine "academic, vocational, and school-to-work curricula.'' Selection rules are in the Aug. 17 Federal Register.

Direct Lending

In the Sept. 10 Federal Register, the Education Department outlines how postsecondary institutions will be selected to participate in the new direct-student-loan program. Applications are due Oct 1. Call (202) 708-8242 for information.
