I gave a talk today at MassCUE on the School Leader’s 1-to-1 Implementation Checklist, and I was quite grateful to learn after that a few folks had done a great job of live tweeting the session with images.

The gist of the talk is this: getting devices into schools is easy, changing teacher practice and student learning is really hard. Typically, most teachers use new devices to extend old practices, and substantial and inspiring change happens in a few pockets of excellence. The job of school leaders is to create the conditions that nurture more pockets of excellence and eventually help innovation practices scale beyond those places. I identify a few things that seem to help: developing a vision for how technology should improve learning, modeling new learning practices as a school leader, supporting pockets of excellence, supporting teacher-to-teacher professional development, celebrating success, and assessing change.

The slides and some tweets from the talk are below. The tweets have many funny pics of me with my eyes closed.
