Maine’s highest court has rejected an attempt by parents to spend public money at religious high schools. In a 6-1 decision, the Maine Supreme Judicial Court ruled April 26 that parents in small towns without high schools may not spend tuition vouchers for religious schools. The Institute for Justice, which represented eight parents in the case, is considering an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, said Lisa Knepper, a spokeswoman for the Arlington, Va.-based nonprofit legal-advocacy group.
