In Which I Say Farewell, for Now

Dear Readers,

This will be my last post on Teacher Beat for some time. As some of you know, I’ve been selected as a Knight-Wallace Fellow and will be studying at the University of Michigan for the 2016-17 academic year. It’s a great honor to be selected among this fine group of journalists, and it’s a rare opportunity for me to dig into topics I’ve long been interested in, but haven’t had enough time to explore.

It has truly been rewarding and humbling setting out on this blogging adventure with you—from all the complicated but important research, the twists and turns of the teachers’ union conventions, and the evolution in federal initiatives (waivers! regulations!).

Most of all, I want to thank the teachers whom I’ve worked with over the years. In a field that sometimes seems hopelessly overrun by some pretty nasty politics, it’s you who have kept me sane by generously sharing your experiences with me and with our readers.

Fear not, though: My co-blogger Emmanuel Felton, in addition to other contributors, will continue to post in my absence. We’ll also be announcing a second reporter to pinch-hit for me while I’m gone. So this will still be the place to come on all the latest in teaching policy.

So it’s goodbye for now, but not forever.
