Boston public schools were under tight security Friday afternoon after two dozen city schools received “suspicious letters that contain some threatening and disturbing content,” according to a school district press release.
School officials said that Boston police are investigating and had already determined Friday afternoon that there were no harmful substances enclosed in the letters, the Associated Press reported. The typed letters were addressed to public schools around the city and were postmarked from Texas, the AP reported.
District officials said they notified students’ families through the school system’s automated phone-message system.
Both police and school district officials said they know of no credible threat to schools, students, and staff members.
Earlier today, authorities arrested TV actress Shannon Rogers Guess Richardson in connection with ricin-laced letters that were sent last month to President Obama, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and the head of the gun-control organization founded by Bloomberg. Those letters were mailed from Texas.
