The Department of Education now has its top management staff in place, after a flurry of confirmations.

On July 29, the department announced the confirmations of Henry L. Johnson, a former state superintendent of education in Mississippi, as assistant secretary for elementary and secondary education; Terrell L. Halaska, a former special assistant to President Bush for domestic policy, as assistant secretary of education of legislation and congressional affairs; and Kevin F. Sullivan as assistant secretary of education for communications and outreach.
