Accountability Conflicts Vex Schools

Gove Elementary School is one of Florida's "schools on the rise," according to the state accountability system, and John Glenn Middle School of International Studies is one of California's three model schools for grades 6-8.

Correction: 
The print version of the story listed the wrong states in which two schools are located. Gove Elementary School is in Belle Glade, Fla., and John Glenn Middle School is in Indio, Calif.
Also the goal schools must achieve under California's system is incorrectly stated. Each year, every school must close 5 percent of the original gap between its starting point and the goal set for it by the state.
