Battles surrounding the Common Core State Standards and the aligned tests have taken place in several states. But nowhere has the conflict been more protracted, high-profile, and complicated than in Louisiana. Gov. Bobby Jindal, a Republican, has declared open season on the standards and the assessments from the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, with the latter drawing most of his fire. State Superintendent John White and the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education have refused to yield to the governor's demands without a legal fight.
