Last week, I wrote about a handful of efforts that have been undertaken to translate the common standards into languages other than English for dual-language programs.
Since then, I’ve learned that educators in San Francisco are beginning to work on translations for Chinese—both Cantonese and Mandarin—for the dual-language programs in that school district. Their plan, says Michele Anberg-Espinosa, a program administrator for world language/dual language in San Francisco Unified, is to “mirror” the translation process that her colleagues in Southern California have undertaken for Spanish dual programs and “augment” that for Cantonese and Mandarin.
The San Francisco team is also interested in networking with other districts that need to do the same work in the Chinese languages.
