Those of you who like to follow the ins and outs of common-core leadership will be interested to know that Gene Wilhoit is stepping down from his post as the executive director of the Council of Chief State School Officers.

The CCSSO, you probably recall, teamed up with the National Governors Association in 2009 to drive the initiative that produced pledges of support for common standards—and then adoptions of those standards—from most states in the country.

Wilhoit isn’t exactly retiring, since he plans to continue work in education policy when he moves back to Kentucky, where he once was commissioner of education. Get the whole scoop from my colleague Andrew Ujifusa, who covered this in a blog post yesterday. CCSSO has its own press release on the news, as well.
