Scholastic announced today that they will be launching a new Harry Potter Reading Club this Fall. The club will kick off with a webcast by the author herself, J.K. Rowling, where she will answer questions from kids—live—for the first time since 2007.
Educators can sign up for the webcast (scheduled for October 11 at 9 a.m. PT/12 noon ET) beginning today. Even better, the first 10,000 registrants will receive a welcome kit to the book club stocked with bookmarks, stickers, and name tags. Don’t fret if you miss the cutoff, however, because you’ll be able to download versions of the giveaways directly from the Web site.
Scholastic has already created a dedicated Twitter hashtag, #hpREADS, to provide a community for club leaders.
No word yet on whether anyone will be (virtually) invited to play in J.K. Rowling’s soon-to-be-built treehouses. My guess is that there no chance whatsoever, but die-hard fans can always visit the Great Hall.
