The White House Task Force on New Americans and the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of English-language Acquisition are hosting a webinar Thursday to explore how educators can create welcoming schools for immigrant and refugee students.

Panelists, including representatives from the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and officials with the Internationals Network for Public Schools, will share current research and promising practices for creating welcoming schools.

The International Network is a New York City-based nonprofit that focuses on serving immigrant students. The network has 19 schools in districts ranging from Oakland, Calif., to Alexandria, Va. Education Week took a look inside Washington, D.C., location for a story this spring.

The webinar is the second in a series on the educational and linguistic integration of immigrants and refugees. Dual-language learning and engaging immigrant parents and families are among the topics for future sessions.
