An Oakland, Calif., school board member will be the new chairwoman of the Council of the Great City Schools’ board of directors.
Jumoke Hinton Hodge started in the one-year position this week, replacing Valeria Silva, the superintendent of the St. Paul, Minn., school district, who was selected as one of Education Week‘s Leaders To Learn From in 2013.
The Council of the Great City Schools, a coalition of 67 of the nation’s largest K-12 school districts, made the announcement this week. Its board of directors is made up of 134 members—the superintendent and a school board member from each of the constituent districts.
Among other changes for the 2014-2015 year:
- Richard Carranza, the superintendent of schools in San Francisco, who previously served as secretary treasurer, will become chair-elect.
- Felton Williams, a school board member from Long Beach, Calif., will serve as secretary treasurer.
