Professional standards for education research assessment have been overhauled for the first time in 15 years to incorporate new test methods and technology, as well as to better address testing English-language learners and students with disabilities.
Three top national groups— the American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education—this morning released the first new Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing since 1999. (An electronic version of the document will not be available until later this fall, however.)
In addition to long-needed updates to include more students with special needs in testing, the standards also offer guidance on how tests can and should be used for education accountability and policymaking.
