Former Chicago schools CEO and Rochester, N.Y., school superintendent Jean-Claude Brizard will join Cross & Joftus, an education and consulting firm, as a partner and vice president.
In his new role, Brizard will help school leaders turn around under-performing school districts and develop education-to-career policies and practices.
Brizard worked as CEO of the Chicago schools from May 2011 until October 2012, resigning after 17 months on the job.
At the time of his depature from Chicago, Brizard and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel both said his resignation was a mutual decision that arose after questions about his management became a distraction to Emanuel’s school reform goals.
Before taking the Chicago job, Brizard served as superintendent in the Rochester, N.Y., school district from January 2008 to May 2011.
Brizard started his career in the New York City schools, where he worked as a teacher, principal, and central office administrator. He finished his 21-year career there as a regional superintendent, supervising more than 100 schools in Brooklyn.
In 2013, Brizard worked as an adviser to The College Board, helping the organization on its career-readiness initiatives.
