Patty Fisher, a columnist for the San Jose Mercury News, highlights a theatre company in Palo Alto, Calif., that offers a summer teacher-training lab that’s designed to help teachers develop better stage presence and, while they’re at it, have more fun in the classroom. The teachers participating seem to appreciate the training. Maybe, Fisher suggests, states should start requiring credits in performing arts for teacher certification? I’ve heard crazier ideas. (Bonus: There’s a great photo in the story, at right, of some teachers in the workshop doing an impromptu ballet routine.)
