A fun game for all ages, especially if you’re good at it. Think of recruitment fairs as a strategic game of memory. Many educators, new and veteran, will ask if they should attend recruitment fairs. Absolutely! For candidates, it is an opportunity to:

  • get in front of prospective employers
  • ask questions
  • find out more about the district/school (information you can’t find on the website)
  • improve your interview skills
  • better craft your five minute elevator speech about yourself and your skills, for meet and greets
  • learn about more opportunities
  • show recruiters who you are
  • GROW

For employers, it is an opportunity to:

  • put a face, and personality, to a name and resume
  • mentally place a candidate within their district/school
  • get clarification on a resume or anything that was shared
  • share information about their district/school
  • be able to say hello and acknowledge them at orientation once they’ve been hired
  • show candidates who you are as an organization

As we recruit more, we should also be looking at growing our own, hosting our own recruitment fairs (for internal and external candidates), partnering with other districts to fill in the gaps, partnering with colleges and universities to fortify our pipelines and create new ones, and continually looking for new opportunities to create and continue the excitement in education. Grow yourself, grow your organization, recruit (even use your new recruits to recruit) and network, network, network!
