In a recent segment on PBS NewsHour’s Making the Grade, PBS correspondent Hari Sreenivasan sat down with U.S. Secretary of Education John B. King Jr. to discuss a variety of topics — from the Common Core standards to the “caste” system of college admissions. King also explained how school helped him rise above the hardships he faced as a child.
“School ... was a place where I could be a kid when I couldn’t be a kid outside of school,” he said.
This segment aired on PBS NewsHour on May 3, 2016.
