One of the nation’s leading advocacy groups for charter schools has been doing a lot of hiring recently, from both sides of the political aisle.
Earlier this year the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools announced that Nina S. Rees, a former education adviser in George W. Bush’s administration, would take over as the organization’s president and chief executive officer. Rees had also served as an adviser to Mitt Romney’s campaign, before leaving that role to take the position with the alliance.
Then a few weeks ago, the alliance named Gina Mahony as its senior vice president for federal affairs. Mahony worked for more than a decade on Capitol Hill, including a stint as a senior policy adviser to Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, a Maryland Democrat, during his time as House Majority Leader.
Now the charter school group has made another addition, hiring David Hoff away from the Obama administration. Hoff, who is the U.S. Department of Education’s deputy assistant secretary for communication development—and a former Education Week reporter—will become the charter alliance’s new vice president for communications and marketing.
