For the second time in four months, the International Society for Technology in Education has hired a former director of the federal Office of Educational Technology.
Joseph South, who directed the office from January of 2016 until President Donald Trump took office in January 2017, will join the prominent membership organization as its chief learning officer.
“We have amazing ISTE members who are experts at effective digital learning. We want to do more to amplify their voices and share their experience with other educators,” South said in a statement released by the group.
“We would also like to assist our members as they consider the large number of ed-tech solutions that come their way by helping them engage in rigorous, rapid-cycle evaluations of new products and services, and then share their findings with other members so we can all benefit from each other’s experience.
In April, ISTE announced Richard Culatta, who headed the Office of Educational Technology from 2011 to 2015, as its new CEO. South was Culatta’s deputy director for two of those years.
