The Promises of Ed. Technology Ads

An online slideshow offers a visual tour of the school technology products and pitches that educators have seen since the 1950s. "What helps explain the half-century of promises made in these ads is knowing about the love affair Americans have had with new technologies in life and in schools," Stanford University Professor Emeritus of Education Larry Cuban writes in the accompanying Commentary, "Framing the School Technology Dream." Cuban explores the story of technology in schools in his essay, while the slideshow offers relevant advertising images from the past and today.
